Rectification

The process of converting an AC into a pulsating DC current is known as rectification. The device which performs this job is termed as rectifier. A rectifier often offers minute resistance to the flow of current in one direction and large resistance to the other direction. Ideally resistance in one direction should be zero and in the other direction infinite. Vacuum diode which exhibits unidirectional properties is a good rectifier. Rectifier is also called as ‘electronic switch’.
